QUAYS TO THE CITY
beyond checked into Cheval Three Quays on the banks of the River Thames for a bird’s eye view of the capital and a trip to remember.
Like a couple of five-year-olds who’ve been left alone with a giant bag of Haribos, trying to contain our excitement as we were shown the ropes in our penthouse suite was a tall order.
Any hopes of playing it cool went straight out of the window roughly five steps into the beautiful serviced apartment, accessed via a private inner corridor, with its sprawling hall area leading to an enormous living space and breathtaking views of some of the most iconic sights the capital has to offer.
And we were staying for two whole night! Cheval Three Quays, from the Cheval Residences group, is a multi- award winning five-star destination in the heart of London and it’s easy to see why.
Our expansive balcony wrapped around the uppermost corner of this imposing building, neighbouring the Tower of London to our left, Tower Bridge a stone’s throw away, HMS Belfast buoyant in the Thames straight ahead with
The Shard towering over the South Bank, and the brow of the London Eye, to our right.
With all the big hitters laid out before you, there is no need to move an inch and it’s no exaggeration to say this place has it all for anybody visiting the Big Smoke.
Inside, the contemporary two-bedroomed river view penthouse is glorious. A gigantic, sumptuous L-shaped sofa in a spacious open-plan living area, elegant chandeliers, deep, soft rugs, grand mirrors and floor to ceiling windows framing stunning views from every room.
Both bedrooms are extravagantly furnished and enormous with huge, comfy beds, beautiful ensuite bathrooms, complete with Hermes toiletries, a lovely touch and a walk-in wardrobe so vast, you feel you should measure it, just to confirm that it is definitely bigger than your kitchen at home.
No worries about where to plug your phone in here, everything has been meticulously designed and catered for. The kitchen is all clean lines, glossy surfaces and quality appliances, everything you could possibly need to rustle up something fabulous, or in our case, warm a croissant. Please don’t judge, we were on a mini-break!
And anyway, there is a wealth of cafes, bars and restaurants really close by at St Katharine’s Dock, or if you’re looking for something a bit fancy try The Ivy or Gaucho just over the bridge. Paul’s patisserie is right outside the apartment block along with a Starbucks so you can grab a quick coffee and a bite on your way out and a slice from one of the nearby pizzerias on your way back, if you’re feeling particularly laissez-faire.
Tower Hill tube station is only a short five-minute stroll away so access to any part of the city feels relatively straight-forward. You can reach the financial area, the vibrant East and cultural West End with ease or take the scenic route along the River Thames.
Cheval is so perfectly placed, you really are spoilt for choice.
When visiting London with its vast array of everything, you have to decide how you’re going to play it and what you want to get out of it. Partaking in a bit of culture seemed like a great idea whilst sipping a G&T on the balcony five minutes after arrival, but in
the cold, sunny light of the next day, and only just managing to tear ourselves away from the remote controlled curtains, we decided that a mosey round Spitalfields market and a saunter through Camden was actually what we fancied.
It was a perfect day and the thought of returning back to our beautiful apartment, made the whole experience even more pleasurable.
The elegant reception area of Cheval has the air of a luxury hotel and offers so much more than most serviced apartments. With the 24-hour concierge service it provides the ultimate attention to detail.
Whether sharing local advice, booking tickets, organising travel arrangements or taking care of laundry, the team at Cheval are warm, professional, helpful and seem genuinely set to make your stay as memorable as possible. And it was.
Also, important to note, there’s a gym on site should you feel so inclined and I imagine even pounding the treadmill might feel more glamorous here than at your local leisure centre.
But I wouldn’t know as I was too busy taking in the view and working up a sweat wandering in and out of the walk-in wardrobe.
This sojourn can be exactly what you want it to be and that’s the real beauty of Cheval. It offers all the luxury of
a five-star hotel but it is so much more.
Impeccably equipped to offer superior self-contained living whilst being slap bang in the heart of the city, this place makes you feel less spectator or tourist and more like the King and Queen of your very own castle.
A stay at Cheval Three Quays offers a unique and relaxed view of London that was difficult to leave and a pleasure to experience. We will definitely go back.
To visit the museums, obviously.
