Animal print is big, seen on all the catwalks. Dismiss the trashy pre-conceptions, Victoria Beckham, Tom Ford, Balenciaga et al gave luxury credence to leopard print. Not isolated to leopard print, the animal print trend gave equal opportunities to zebra, tiger, ocelot and any other print you can think of.
HOW TO WEAR IT: There were bold iterations of print in audacious colouring. Make an entrance with head-to-toe print in luxury fabrics to avoid veering into Kat Slater territory. If you are sticking to a neutral print, punctuate with some colour.
HELL FOR LEATHER
Silk and velvet are the luxury fabrics that dominate, but are pretty demure. For something more assertive go for leather. To update the leather trend choose a full leather dress. It’s assertive, sassy and a world away from the cliché sequins and glitter that are all too easy to wear at parties.
HOW TO WEAR IT: For full-throttle new season style take Alexander McQueen’s leather dress out for a spin. Complement the tough aesthetic with studded boots and pops of colour from carefully curated accessories.
80S AFTER DARK
Tinged with elements of 80s power dressing with a smattering of disco thrown in for good measure, Autumn/Winter 2018 is about being ultra-luxe. Adopting the maximalist’s mantra – ‘more is more’ – the runway was rife with high-shine styles alongside severe silhouettes and thigh-grazing hemlines.
HOW TO WEAR IT: Fashion magpies will be falling over themselves to get to sequin-saturated tops, trousers and dresses. For a tamer take, try jeans dripping in crystals – a nod to the Y2K ‘jeans and a nice top’ trend.
